I Papers declare that henceforth it is quite an indifferent matter to Italy j whether France and England declare I war on Austria, or vice versa. No casus foederis is any longer- possible for Italy, whose neutrality continues unshaken. (This means that Italy considers herself not bound by the Triple Alliance agreement or understanding to shoulder any share of her aides' burdens.) A FAMINE FEARED IN ITALY. Pome, August 11. The Austrian and Itaiau Government banks are refusing pecuniary assistance. No one is being paid. Commodities are very scarce and dear, and a general famine is threatened. The Italian Ambassador at Vienna left for Rome with the German Ambassador. On the return journey to Vienna the Italian Ambassador declined to be interviewed, but stated that his visiti to Rome had not been useless.
