N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd* Stratford Branch, reports as follows; On Thursday, 30th July, we held a clearing sale on account of 11. T. B. Mellow, at his Manaia Load farm, Kaponga, in conjunction with our Hawcra Branch. The weather turned

out very wet and rough which prevented a number of intending buyers from attending, although there was a large crowd present from all parts of the district. The stock offered were in splendid condition, and showed a lot of quality, but. some of them were aged and being machine milked, detracted from their value to a large extent. Only a limited number of pedigress Jerseys wore offered, a :d considering all the circumstances made fair values, although not nearly as much as the owner expected:—Lulu Exile, 22gils; Hope’s Fruition, 38ghs; Foxglove 2nd, 30gns; Wee Shamrock, 23gns; Sweet Cream and Calf, 35gns, Lady May, 25gns. Average for Jerseys 28 and five-sixths guineas. The Holsteins were a fine lot of cows, good condition and body, and made fair money at from £8 for the more aged up to £22 10s for younger ones. The Jerseys were well competed foi and made good money at from £8 to £l6 for cows showing quality. The Ayrshires were a nice line of cows, £nd elicited keen bidding at from £8 to £l4, backward cows and 3 teaters realised £5 to £7 10s, the average

foi 1 the whole being £l3 ss. 1 " ° ■On Friday, 31st July, we hold a clearing sale on account of Mr R. B. Gooding, Bird Road, Stratford. There was a large attendance, and everything offered was keenly competed for at very high prices. Aged and backward cows realised from £5 10s to £7 10s, younger ones £8 15s to £l4, springing heifers in lots from £5 2s 6d to £7 12s Gel, hulls £5 ss, yearling heifers 4Gs, horses unbroken, filly j£2o lUs, aged mare £l3, aged gelding £2l, grey gelding £25 ; hack £5 10s.

On Monday, 3rd August, we hold a , clearing sale on account of G. W. Lumsden ) Stanley Road. There was a fair attendance, and cows showing youth and quality sold wclj, gnd at full values from £7 to £ll, backward and empty cows £3 2s Cd to £5, j bull 455, weaner heifers 335, weaner steers 31s, Midhirst,shares 15s 9d, aged mare £il, hillside, plough 37s Gel, dray £5 ss, store pigs 225, On Tuesday, 4th inst,, we held a

clearing sale on account of F. Fi’Dow,man Fjsq., Norfolk Road. The attendance was fair, and cows sold at Jiipfi prices according to age and quality at Horn £7. 10s to £l3, backward cows and 3-tcaters neglected at from £5 to £G, horses up to £25 10s.

. On Wednesday, sth inst., we held a dealing sale on account of Mr Samuel '•Parker, Mountain Road, Stratford. The, attendance was good, and prices were well maintained, young cows, early calvers making £9 to £l2 10s, backward £7 to £8 os, bull £6 10s, horses aged £9 to £l2, pigs 23s to 245. -

Since wo last reported wo have disposed of stock privately as follows Mixed yearlings 41s 6d to 50s, yearling steers 535, 555, to 565, 2-year steers 72s Gd, 82s 6d, 90s, ewes in lamb 20s, 21s, 23s to 255, hoggets culls 10s, others IGs and 16s Gd, fat wethers 245, in calf heifers 115 s to 120 s, empty heifers Gss and 70s, dairy cows 150 s, 1655, 177 s Gd.
