Mr Newton King intends leaving San Francisco For New Zealand on August 19.

Mr Frank Mackay was successful in the election to the Education Board, the results being: Mr Mackay 72 votes, Mr Rogers 67, Mr Mills 15.

Mr F. Arden, who some time ago suffered a stroke of paralysis, . was able to be wheeled about to-day. He was looking particularly well.

The death of Mr Henry Guller, member of the Ne.y South Wales Legislative Council and ox editor of the Sydney Morning Herald and the Daily reicfiaph is annouioed from Sydney.

' The Mayor of Xew Plymouth, Mr H. Trimble (chairman of the Taranaki Board) and Mr R. Masters (member of the Board), are at present in Wellington, where they are to give evidence before the Education Committee on the proposal for the abolition of the Taranaki education district.
