The Mayor reported at last night's meeting of the Borough Council on the recent Municipal Conference, which he described as one of the most important yet held. The Council's remit regarding the depositing of plans when land is cut up and it is not proposed to make streets was passed almost unanimously. The remit regarding meat was not passed, chiefly, the Mayor thought, because delegates were not very conversant with abattoir matters. However, he thought that it would pass at the next conference. On© of the things 'which of itself would justify the conference was the discussion on a suggestion for a national scheme for superannuation for local body employees. This wo'uld be a move in the interests of both the local bodies and the employees. The matter was considered of such an important character that it was proposed to hold a, special conference to discuss it. Other Councillors expressed their appreciation of the scheme. On Cr Thompson's motion a vote of thanks was passed to the Mayor for his report, and it was decided to pay his expenses to Wellington.
