Bail was fixed for Twiss and Tatham at £IOOO each. Freeman did not apply, and Ryan's application was refused, the Crown Prosecutor stating that only £3OO of the £3300 had been recovered. If bail were allowed, the money might be secured. . "A SURPRISE PACKET." (Received 9.30 a.m. ) Sydney, July 23. Ryan, in conversation with the arresting detective, said that if in arresting him he thought they had the principal in the Eveleigh hold-up they were wrong. They all been asleep. He had a surprise wp his sleeve and when they heafd what he had to say they would aHmit they were wrong.
