CARD TOURNEY.

CIVIL SERVANTS MEET. Last night teams representing the Post and Telegraph office and the Public Works building met in a card tourney. A competitor supplies the following copy of the challenge and reply preceding the games:— ' The Challenge:— Know ye by these presents, men of the Post and Telegraph Office, that it has come to our ears that you consider yourselves able to play the 'a'ntlent and honorable game of cribbage, and that you are of the opinion that you are.the champions of Stratford. Now we, the P.W.D. poor working devils', and others. ,erpr ployed in the Public Buildings, have already won some honors "at the game, and do hereby challenge you to combat at 8 o'clock on the night of Friday, 10th insfc., at Mr S. Pivac's supper rooms. Should your courage permit of your accepting'our challenge please select twelve of your most valiant fighters and advise us early. The Reply: The men of the Post and Telegraph Office have not the slightest hesitation in picking up the gauntlet, which has been thrown down with such braggadocio, and flinging it back in the teeth of the bold, boastful braggarts, who rejoice in the euphonious but misleading sobriquet of "poor, working devils." Wo have never courted publicity, hut we resent your gratuitous insulting reference to our courage, and will have no hesitation in meetiiig you in Pivac's arena at 8 o'clock sharp on Friday evening, when no quarter will be given nor expected. More in sorrow than in anger. The Result: Following are details of play (P. and T. men being menetioned first in each case :—Cribbage : Mr Stanton and Mr Mulvey 6, v. Mr W.
