Mrs Ledwidge, whose death is reported at the age of 76, was a link with the bushrunging days. The bushranger, Power, after escaping from Pentridge, stuck up the Ledwidge’s Hotel at Humura. Ledwidge escaped, and mounted Power’s horse and went in search of the police. Power ransacked the house in search of a bag of gold dust, which, with another bag containing £6OO, Mrs Ledwidge had hidden. The bushranger twice severely beat the defenceless woman with a gun barrell for refusing to disclose their whereabouts.
Thrice Power fired the house, hut deceased put the fire out. Eventually Power, after securing only £2 in money and a £2O cheque, fled, leaving the victim bleeding on the floor.
