An Ultimatum.

MEXICAN PACSFSCAIBON.

“DELEGATES MUST YIELD.” iRy Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Pees* Association.l Niagara Falls, June 20. Judge Lamar, of the United States Mediation Commission, has notified Emilie Robassa, the Mexican chief delegate, that the United States must insist on the acceptance of its plan, for Mexican pacification. This being in the nature of an ultimatum, the Huertau delegates must yield or .the mediation proceedings will end in a couple of days. The delegates have notified \ ilia that they have deposed Carranza as the Constitutionalist leader and appointed General Angeles as provisional President of Mexico. Carranza retorted by deposing An■geles, alleging disobedience of Ins orders. The Peace Conference is reported to be on the eve of relinquishing its work, which it now believes to be useless.

THE PROVISIONAL GOVERN-

MENT. VILLA AND CARRANZA. (Received 9.0 a.m.) Washington, June 21. President Wilson announced that the prospect of mediation is still hopeful. Mr Bryan declared that Carranza was willing to accept provisional government, and that, he would supervise Constitutionalist elections. Mr Bryan indicated that the United States now only insisted that provisional government shall be dominated by the recognised representatives of the' reform element. Mr Bryan’s statement took the public by surprise, as it was generally expected the existing deadlock was impossible to overcome. The Niagara Falls mediation officials are unable to verify the latest report qf the Villa and Carranza breach, the delegates thinking that it probably exaggerated the view that Carranza was agreeing to accept provisional government with the above proviso.
