THE CLYDESDALE HORSE SOCIETY.
- The Clydesdale Horse Society of the Dominion of New - Zealand held its annual meeting in Dunedin. Mr J. W. Blair (rctirifig president) was in the chair and there was a large at-f tendance of members from all parts of the Dominion.
The Chairman, in his address, said it would bo noticed that the meHVtl bership had increased to 421. It was the intention of the Council to publish a volume annually, and a big l effort was about to bo made to publish the second volume this year. Ho was pleased to notice that seventeen district A.' and P. Associations were granted affiliation last year, l aud he hoped that next 1 season would see more enrolled. ■ He 1 would point out that medals offered under-this'scheme were for competition among side If bred by exhibitors who must be local members of the societies. The veterinary examination ‘scheme had been well taken advantage of, and altogether the work of the Society had /not with e nconraging results. He h’M flinch pleasure in moving the t adoption of the report and balance sheet. Mr Alexander Hunter (Haw-era), pointed out that in, j 1913' - the membership was 217 pin 1913, it was 349,; and it now stood at 421. The assets of the Society in 1912 were worth £727; in 1913 £77-5, and they now amounted to £BH,. )( j‘ .Their income in 1912 was.£9l7 (at that time there was no outlay), in 1013’it was £483 and in 1j)14,< it was, so far, £530. They had on, deposit, in -1912, £479, the next year,, £424, and now the sum was £166. , This showed the healthy financial standing pf - the Society. Ho called attention to an article in a recent- agricultural paper which stated that farmers had disposed of their motor tractors and reverted to the, Use!-of horses again iu Canada, so members need--have no despair yet as regards the draught hopses. The report was unanimously adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows .•—President, Air Alexr. Hunter; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs J. W. Harding (Waipukurau), Wilfred Johnstone (Papatoetoe), James Gow (Wiugatui), and 1 hos. Logan (Otama); council, Messrs Hugh Campbell (Hawkes Bay), A. E. Harding (Mangawhare), L. 11. Hamilton (Mauutahi), James Knight (Fcilding), James W. Blair Outram), W, J. J. Charters (Mosgiel), B. E. Dahlenburg (Kaikoura), and J. A. Johnstone (Dunedin); auditor, Mr Peter Barr.
At a meeting of the' Council prior Jto the annual meeting, the following new members were elected:— Messrs Patrick Small (Ashburton), W. E. Hunt (Glenpark), Win. Frame (Goodwood), 11. T. Simpson Gore), John Carmichael (Woodlands), G. V. Smith (Gisborne), H. E. E. Watson (/iai i'apu). It was decided to affiliate with the Chamber of Agriculture, Mr Hunter and the secretary being appointed to represent the Society at the Chamber’s conference, to be held in July at Wellington. A letter was received from the Panama Pacific Exposition authorities in connection with the exhibit of New Zealand Clydesdale stock at the Exhibition. It was mentioned that £lO,QOO had been set aside for prices for horses) of various breeds, and breeders’ associations were offering additional prices and trophies. The horses sent forward would require to leave the Dominion in September next, and would probably be judged about October 1 to October 12th. No charge was to be made for space, stall rent, or entry fees. The authorities were providing suitable accommodation free for stock, which would also be carried to and from America free of charge by the railway department and by the Union S.S. Co.
