NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION. [[Paa Prfjji Amooiaxion.] Wellington, -June 18. The New Zealand Rugby Union management committee appointed Cockroft as captain of the South Island team for Saturday. Various letters were received regarding alleged breaches of the amateur rule. The Poverty Bay Union asked if a man who had played the League •game, but had not been officially suspended, could be prevented from playing Rugby. It was decided to reply that it was the duty of the local union to suspend the player and report to the New Zealand Union when a breach of the rule ocourrecl. The Wellington .Union asked for r match against the New Zealand team before the latter's departure for Australia. The match will be arranged if possible. STRATFORD 111. v. STAR 111. This match was played on the Recreation grounds. New Plymouth, yesterday, Stratford winning by •15 fo nil. The ground was very heavy, and rain fell during the greater part of t&e game. The first spell was fairly even, ending in favor of Stratford by 3 points, a penalty goal l kicked by Syme. In the second spell the Stratford' forwards played well together and had Star penned most of the time. "In this spell, A. Vickers and W. Syme (2) scored tries, Svme also kicking a goal from a nlark. Mr West controlled the game. RESULTS AT A GLANCE. ,- FIRST JUNIOR. Tukapa 12 v. High School 5. Stratford 13. v. Clifton 0. SECOND JUNIORS. Stratford 15 v. Star 0. ' Clifton 6 v. Stratford D.H.S. 3. In the first junior game, Clifton sored a try in the first spell, which was not converted. In the second spell, Kivell scored for Stratford, Colling converting. Russ also scored, but the attempt to convert faili ed. Towards the end of the game Rogers jscored, Collins converting: In the 5 second junior division, Kaipo 'scared in • the first spell for Clifton and Mail for Stratford D.H.S. In 'the'second spell the school attacked strongly, but were unable to score, Kaipo scoring again for Clifton. r ■ To-morrow another round of fixtures in the eastern district will bo played, Toko v. Taliora, at Toko, and Strathmore v. Whanga, at Whanga. The standard of play throughout the district has considerably improved since the commencement of the season'. Both these contests should prove close and interesting finishes. The • following will represent Toko against Tahora, at Toko, to-morrow afternoon, at 3 p.m.:—Backs: G. Morrison, G. Corbett, A.
