N NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY CO., LTD. !; "* T~~ The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows: On Friday, sth June, we held our usual monthly sale in our Te Wera yards, when we yarded 100 head cattle and 1551 sheep, most of which were sold at"the'iianlmer or afterwards at satisfactory prices. 2i to 3 year old ' steers 4 90s Gd to 101 s, 20 months to 2 year old steers 05s to 90s, dairy heifers 102 s Gd, store cows 70s, ewe lambs 14s t 9d to 15s, fat and forward wethers" 225, f.m. ewes, 2, 4 and 6- ( tooth 19s 7d, cull lambs 10s, empty owes 12s Gd to 15s.
On Thursday, IJfch iust., we held a clearing sale on account oi Mr C'has. Thompson, Pembroke Road, Stratford, whose lease has expired and who is giving up dairying. There was a very large attendance from all parts of the district, about 125 people being present. The cows wore in creditable condition considering that Mr Thompson had no turnips or hay for them and that the 77 acres was very heavily stocked, carrying 24 dairy cows, 10 heifers, bull, and several horses. Competition was keen from the start, and the sale was a very satisfactory one. The usual sundries were disposed of first at the following price :—Milk cans 13s, aerator 10s, maul and wedges 8s Gd, Champion range £3 17s, leggings 6s 6d, sledge 225. Gd, milk cart £7 10s. harness £3 6s, plough chains 9s, chest' of drawers £l, hanging lamp 21s, sidehoard 355, aged boar 10s, fowls Is 7d each, sow and litter of 7 pigs £5 ss, horses: aged mare bought in at £2O, 18 months filly bought in at £lO. The stock was well distributed over the district, no less than 10 buyers operating. Four or five of the cows showed ago, one was a 3-tcater, 2 were small heifers carrying 2nd calf, while one had slipepd her calf and was in milk. Prices £ls 15s, £l2, £ll ss, £ll, £lO 15s, £lo l los, £lO. £9 15s, £9 10s, £9 ss, £9 for early calvers. For later calving cows 160 s, 1555, 150 s, 3-teater 1255, heifers 105 s, store cow 90s. The cows averaged £lO 3s 3d, bull £1 ss. Very nice lot of selected Holstein-Jer-sey weaners fell to tlio bid of a Taviki client at 40s. Since wo last reported, wo have put through a fair amount of business privately. Lambs 11s 6d, 12s 3d, 12s 6d, 13s 6d, f.m. owes 14s Gel, 15s Orl, 16s 6d, 17s, 18s 3d, 18s 6d, and np to 21s, empty ewes 17s 6d, wethers 15s, 17s Gd, 245, weaner heifers 29s Gd, weaner steers 37s Gd, 41s, 435, 465, 2-J to 3-yen r-o!d steers 105 s, 112 s Gd, 120 s to 1255.
Tlio Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 10th- instant, 1914 :—Wheat. —Wo have sold an Australian cargo at 37s 4id c.i.f. The market is quiet hut steady, and owing to favorable crop reports from America, not likely to improve at present. Oats.—Wo quote.-—Cartons ills, Sparrowbills 20s (Jd. The market is steady, but the outlook is uncertain. Tallow.—Wo quote present spot values for tho following descriptions:—Good mutton 3os per cwt, good beef 33s 3d, mixed 31s 3d. The market is dull.
