SUICIDE AT GREYMOUTH.
ATTEMPTED SHOOTING OF YOU?>!C WOMAN. [PIB PRKM ASSOCIATION.} Greymouth, .Time 11. A sensational affair occurred this afternoon. A young man named Charles Hutchison went to the Post Office Hotel to see a young woman there. Seemingly his visit was unwelcome, and he was told she had gone away. He waited about for some time, and seeing her on the premises, seized and dragged her into a washhouse. A member of the hotel staff, hearing screams, rushed into the washhouse, where he saw the girl holding her assailant by the wrist. He Wrenched hi s right hand free and fired a shot, with a revolver, but missed. The hotel assistant dragged the girl away, and in doing so narrowly escaped ' being shot, ducking his head just in time to dodge .a second bullet. Hutchison then turned the revolver on himself, the bullet entering his temple. He was removed to the hospital in a state of collapse, and subsequently died.
