The" International Amateur Swimming Federation has replied in the negative to the Australian Association's question as to whether a swimming organiser and instructor paid by the Education Department could he considered an amateur. The Federation carried an English resolution so that the amateur status of a 'schoolmaster teaching swimming as part of the curriculum is not endangered.
GOLF. The second men's medal competition will he played on Thursday afternoon. The second ladies' competition will he played next Friday. ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. (By "Full-hack.") At a meeting of the committee of the Association Football Club, the following team was selected to plaj against Kaponga to-morrow (Thursday), on Victoria Park :—-Goal, Lunn ; Hacks, H. Chadwick and L. Bush; half-backa, H. Yoyle, A. Rouse, and T. J. Gorton; forwards, A. Gorton, l\ Malcolm, Clias. Milnerj Heson, King; reserves, Morris and Pepperil. Mr Geo. Bradley will act as referee. This match should prove of unusual interest to the general public for two /reasons. W the first place, Stratford and Kaponga have always played a keenly-contested game, and as they havtf good teams this year, the match should he well worth seeing; secondly—and this is the greater reason—an incident of the game that is seldom if ever seen in these parts will take place, when the popular president, Madame Bernard, will be present at the match to give us a lucky kick-off. Very , few teams can boast of a lady president, but on Madame Bernard being asked to accept the position she readily did so, and handed over a very handsome donation. The Club has been most fortunate this year in the respect of donations. Mr C. E. James has donated a match hall of the first water—or, should I say leather! Mr Sam Pivac, who is a local sport and vice-president, has generously donated a guinea. Mr T.' Merce'r wiped off a debt owing by the club as his donation. I have to thank all these donors and others for the present happy position of the Club. On Thursday afternoon at 8 o'clock, don't forget, Stratford will be "all there." All members' subscriptions are now due.
