HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Hospital Board met this morning, when the following members were present: Messrs .J. McAllister (chairman), W. Rogers, J. Smith, E. IV; Walter, C. 1). Sole, E. Hine, J. Christoff el, and' A. Meredith, REPORTS. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. Steven) reported: During the month of *May thirteen patients were admitted, nineteen were discharged and one died (burns received by accident). Nine patients remained at the end of the month.' Four operations were performed under anaesthetics. There are no oases in the isolation ward. The Matron (kiss O’Brien) reported: Nurse Belton left last week on holiday. T wish to suggest that something he done to the grounds around the isolation ward.—The Visiting Comiluttee was authorised to do anything necessary at the isolation ward.

The Health Inspector reported : Infectious diseases: Two cases of infantile paralysis were notified—one in Stratford Borough, which ended fatally and the other in Stratford County (recovered). In both instances tho promises were .disinfected. Two premises were disinfected in Stratford Borough after scarlet feVer and one in Whanguinomona' County. Stratford Borough -. , The 'iutake of the .Borough supply and the Borough 'septic tattle were inspected by the District Health Officer) also' one butcher's premises and one old unoccupied whare, which has now been made secure against being occupied by vagrants. In one instance drainage recommendations were carried nut. Stratford County: One "hotel was inspected and defect asked to be remedied. -One bakehouse uas inspected. One butcher’s shop was inspected and recommendation re water supply had been complied with. Wlmngarabmona County’: In lour instances nuisances were removed. Iwo boardinghouses, butcher’s .shop, bakehouse, and fruit shop were inspected. The gardener reported that lie was at present clearing up the vegetable garden and making ready for winter digging. , , T . • Mr Sole reported tor tho Visiting Committee that he had visited the hospital several times during the past month and had found everything inside and outside the building in good order. Good progress had been made with the additions,' which should he completed before the Board’s next meeting.

The chairman said that considering the time of year the grounds were looking very well. The interior of the hospital was looking better than it had for some years. ■>. GENERAL. The North Canterbury Board wrote inquiring if the Board insured its employees against accident and sickness. The southern Board suggested that united action he taken to secure policies covering all contingencies.—Left in the hands of the secretary to deal with. The manager of the Electrical Supply Co. wrote asking that all accounts connected with the recent death of the boy AVobherley should be forwarded to the Company, which bad undertaken to defray all burial expenses. The Taranaki Board forwarded a copy of a resolution regarding the Department’s projwised new method ot book-keeping, which, it was claimed, would very greatly increase the cost of keeping the hooks.—lt was decided to endorse the protest.

The Palmerston Hoard forwarded an appeal that a canvassing committee he formed in the district to canvass for funds for the proposed radium institute, for which £2OOO had been subscribed.—The chairman said,the matter was one for the Government if any money was-spent it should come out of the Consolidated* Revenue. —A motion to this effect was passed. Tim secretary notified the receipt of an amount for expenses of members of the Friendly Societies’ Hospital Association.—Mr Sole said that the Association was doing a good work and last year distributed £II,OOO in hospital fees. Lodges as far south as Masterton had asked to join the Association. If the operations of the Association were extended it would be a good thing for the Hospital Hoards. —It w'as decided to pass a vote of thanks to the Association for their prompt payment.
