At the request of the Actors’ Association, the Archbishop conducted an impressive memorial service at the Anglican Cathedral for the Empress of Ireland victims. He paid a tribute to the late Lawrence Irving. Many actors and prominent citizens were present. References were made in the other churches. Mr Walter Bentley, at the Unitarian Church, paid a glowing tribute to Irving. Brisbane, Juno S. A cable received by her from her father confirms the news that Miss Gertie Byrne, aged twenty, was a victim of the Empress of Ireland disaster. He adds that the body of his wife has not been found. This is the first intimation that Mrs Byrne was among the victims. The Byrnes were members of a prominent Brisbane family, noted as philanthropists.

DIVER’S INSPECTION OF THE WRECK. (Received 11.40 a.m.) Ottawa, June 8. A diver who descended to inspect the Empress of Ireland reports that he expects to recover the bodies. It is time, says the paper, for Miniseters to throw' over their, calculations about party profit, and addressed themselves honestly to the mist perilous situation that has confronted the nation in our time.
