AMUSEMENTS.
BERNARD'S PICTURES. To-night's new programme of pictures is a high-class star series. The, star drama is entitled "By Man's Law," and is a celebrated A.B. story of a theme of world-wide interest—the unequal distribution of wealth and the gold of the money gods—and featuring the lust for gold and the abuse of power. The supporting pictures include the famous Vitagraph, Lubin. Warwick Chronicle and a thrilling Gaumont drama entitled "The King of Marksmen." The scenario runs as fololws:—When Bill Haig escapexl from prison the authorities feared that if he gained possession of a gun, the re-capture would be attended by very considerable, risk.* Haig was an exceptionally good shot, and was called "King of Marksmen." Harry Brown, the sheriff, posted up a notice, which .offered a reward of one hundred dollars for his recapture. Brown, in his notice, advised his would-be captors that it would be necessary to exercise the greatest caution in his attempted re-arrest. Brown's little daughter had [eft to tend the goats of the hillside. Haig's attempt to leave the prison had been successful. Dressed in his prison garb he felt the desirability of quickly changing it. He managed to obtain clothes, and, climbing along the hillside he met the little girl minding the goats. She was re-assured when he explained that he.was starving. She said she.would help him and handed him a coin. While satisfying his hunger in town, the sheriff came in and partly recognised him as Haig, the escaped convict. A cry arose from the other customers in the cafe that the little girl tending the goats had fallen down the precipice bank. "The King of Marksmen" rushed to her aid and then gave himself up. The music by Gerald Van Heck's orchestra will be .entirely new, having arrived direct I from America.
