Jenkins (Troon) beat Michael Scott, 4—j3., - Hezlet (Royal Port rush) befit Carr', 5—4. Hunter (Sumtingdale) beat,-Hutchi-son one tip. jiumphricß (lyidll erminster) beat Camp'beH..one up. Fourth Round.—Blackwell beat Hilton, 2—l. „ Graham beat Gillies, 2—l. Hutchison beat Weber, 6—4, Ellis beat Tubbs, two up. Mulholland beat Read at the twentieth hole. Michael Scott beat Mellin, one up. E. Smith beat Lockhart at the nineteenth hole. Jonkinson beat Hambro, 7—6. The heat was intense. Hilton frequently drove out Blackwell, but throughout was lamentably short with his putts. Blackwell, though erratic, always managed his putts well. Macfarlane played golf such as hitherto was unseen at Sandwich. He reached the turn in thirty, where Evans, who was five down from Macfarlano at the fifth, secured the hole with a ten yards putt. He holed the sixth from the edge of the green, and the seventh from thirty yards. He holed his ninth from four yards, breaking all known records. Coming home, Macfarlane was not brilliant. Ho won the twelfth, lost the -next! three,- and won the sixteenth, where Evans twice bunkered.
Ouimot admits Tubbs nut ployed him with superior golf, and was also Quick to take advantage of the American’s mistakes. CRICKET. (Received 10.30 a.m.) London, May 21. Playing against Yorkshire, Hampshire in the first innings scored 416, of which Mead made 213. Against the minor counties Marylobono declared at 538 for six wick-ets—-Tarrant (77), J. W. Hearne (228). Against Surrey, Somerset in their first innings scored seventy seven. Hitch took four wickets for 17 runs.
