ANNUAL MEETING.

There was a bare quorum of members.present at l the ahftudl meeting of the Stratford ! Building- Society, l held, last night. ' Mr 1 N. : J. King l occupied the chair. v.- The-■Chairman-, in moving the adop-n tion of the report and balance-sheet, said it had been hoped that the shares in No. 1 group would now be worked out, but this had been delayed- owing to the stringency .in the money market. The amount accrued to shares might him* been greater if contributions of shareholders in arrears had been forfeited as they Might have been. But the Society was loth to do this unless 'ab- 1 solutely compelled to. At the same time, if the arrears were not soon paid,- forfeiture must follow. In the past year the shareholders had worked well for the Society, and he hoped the now directorate would continue to keep the Society before the public. He had looked over reports of other societies, and the Stratford Society compared very well with them. The motion was seconded by Mr G. E. Wilson, and carried. Messrs N. J. King, W. J. Brayshaw and G. Smart were elected to the vacancies on the directorate. Mr T. H. Penn was reappointed auditor. Mr J. McAllister moved that an honorarium of ten guineas be voted to the chairman. All shareholders knew, he said, how much the chairman had done for the- Society. Mr G. Smart seconded, and the motion was carried. An honorarium of five guineas was voted to the secretary (Mr A. Coleman) on account of extra work in connection with formation of No. 2 group. At a subsequent meeting of directors, Mr King was re-elected chairman.
