AT PORT ARURIRI STORES. XPbb Peeba Association ] * Napier, May 11. Port Ahuriri this evening was visited by one,of the most disastrous fires recorded for many years, resulting in the total destruction of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s fine store, and Messrs Williams and Kettle’s So. 2 produce store, facing the breastwork. The New. Zealand Shipping Company’s loss is a heavy one, as, in addition to .their fine wool and flax dumping plaint, the store' contained some 300 bales of flax and'tow and 100 bales of wool, which had just been received for shipment, as well as other stock. The fire - apparently broke Void amongst the flax near the main front door, but the origin is a’ mystery. Tt i s estimated that the total’ loss in buildings and stock will approximate £15,000. . This will, howevei'V’ be largely covered by insurance,. but .the amounts were not available to-night.
