Rev. J. Pattison returned yesterday from Manaia, and has resumed the duties of his charge. Mr J. B. Connett was yesterday unanimously re-elected chairman of the New Plymouth Harbor Board. Messrs T. P. Hughson and .Jas. Hine have been elected chairmen of the Opunake and Waitara Boards respectively. V . Op. Dingle .wrote to the Borough Council Jaat night .resigning .his poai-. tiop on the Council. . . The. resignation was accepted with regret. Mr H. M. Speed, of Makirikiri, Wanganui, has been selected as the Government candidate to contest the Waimarino seat at the general election. Mr Moller, retiring chairman of the Otago Harbor Board, was re-elected, defeating the retiring deputy-chair-man by seven votes to four. Mr Dickson was elected deputy-chairman. Mr John Townley was re-elected chairman of the Gisborne Harbor Board, for the 24th year in succession. This is claimed to be a record. The Rev. Meyer had a heart seizure while in the pulpit at Regents Park Chapel, and fell forward. Assistance was handy, and he recovered and continued the service.—Times-Sydney Sun service. Mme. Nordica, the well-known operatic prima donna, whose death in Java is reported to-day by cablegram, was born at Farmington, U.S.A., in 1859. She was educated at the Boston Conservatoire of Music and in Italy, her first appearance being in “La Traviata,” in Brescia. Her first appearance in London was in 1887. Her chief part was Marguerite, in “Faust.” The deceased recently toured Australia and New Zealand, when she was enthusiastically received.
