A FIRE ON A TRAIN.
OUTBREAK IN GUARD'S VAN. [Per Press Association.] Auckland, May 10. A fire, the origin of which is a mystery, occurred on the North Auckland line yesterday, between Kawakav.a and Opau. Flames were discovered in the guard's van on the train as it ran down to Opau wharf, and patent fire extinguishers were tried without avail. '.On arrival at the station, the outbreak was subdued by a bucket brigade, although by then the contents of th evan had been badly damaged, with the exception of the mails, which were rescued intact. Amongst the goods destroyed wag a full programme of moving picture films, valued at £4.00, and owned by Hayward, Ltd.
