EVERETT ROAD RESERVE.
[Pkb Pwobb Association. ( Christchurch, May 7. The following telegram, signed by a number of prominent Christchurch people, was forwarded on Tuesday to the Minister of Lands (.Hon. \V. F. Massey); ’ “We, the undersigned, concur m The request which has been made that the Everett Road Reserve, near Inglewood, should not be destroyed, and we strongly urge you to declare so much of the land as is covered with forest a scenic reserve, and so preserve it for all time. \Ve have seen the Gazette notice describing the timber for sale, and it shows that the forest is of magnificent character, which it would be a great shame to destroy. There are too few reserves of the primeval forest of this We would .point out that the reserve of the primeval forest of the country does not belong to the people of the district in which it exists, hut to the people of the Dominion. We therefore earnestly urge you not to sell the forest. If you cannot see your way clear to set the forest aside as a scenic reserve, without some monetary compensation to the Government, we would ask you to allow the people the buy the trees in order that the forest may he preserved. We sincerely trust that you will take immediate action to withdraw the forest trees from sale, and to declare iho land a scenic reserve. In doing so, we believe you would be acting with the concurrence and in accordance with the wishes of the great majority of the people of this country.”
