LAST MAYORAL SHOT.
MR N. J. KING'S LAST WORD. The present Mayoral contest has resembled to some extent the run of a popular theatrical work. On the first night there was a good •'house," on the second a better and on each further performance still a better. Last night's audience at the Town Hall was the biggest yet and it was evident that interest had been worked up to a high pitch. While there Avas nothing which could be called rowdy, those present were free in expressing their opinions and things were at times on the noisy side. However, the interjections and the noisiness did not, except in one or two instances, indicate any bitterness, though in the exceptional cases it was marked. Dr. Paget made his debut in the contest last night and contributed his quota to the volume of interjections and questions. Mr X. J. King made replies to the various statements made by Mr Kirkwood on the previous evening, going carefully into the past history of the Borough, more especially regarding his own term as Mayor. Mr J. W. Boon acted as chairman.
