The Senate Inter-Ocean Canal Committee has decided to give a fortnight to hearing tho pros and cons on the Panama toll measure. Tho Senate meanwhile is likely to debate numerous Bills, ranging from a total rejection and repeal Bill to allowing tho President to exercise his veto whenever thought desirable in the country’s interests. Tho United States has signed a treaty with Colombia, permanently settling the Panama controversy.

TERMS OF THE TREATY. (Received 10.40 n.m.) Washington, April. 8. The United States agree to pay Colombia five million sterling for the acquisition of the Canal zone, and Colombia binds herself to refuse any concession in connection with the new canal or coaling privileges on tlio islands off the Colombian coast. Colombia has relinquished her demand for the free passage of her vessels through the Canal in view of President Wilson’s decision to repeal the exemption clause.
