Bones of Dead Heroes.
CENTENARY OF WATERLOO APPEAL TO ALL NATIONS. [By Eleotrio telegraph—Copyright] Times and Sydney Sun Services. (Received 8.0 a.m.) London, April 6. With the approach of the centenary of Waterloo, the Duke of Wellington is appealing for £IO,OOO for the purpose of preventing the desecration of the battle field, and of erecting a resting place for the bones of the heroes of all nations which are daily being unearthed by the plough.
(There are already a large number of monuments on the famous field. The Belgians erected a huge mould, on the scale of the great Pyramids. There is also a monument erected to the French dead, which is surmounted by an eagle with outstretched beak and with one wing broken. It stands near the final rallying spot of the Old Guard. Other monuments are those to Sir Alexander Gordon, the most-trusted member of Wellington's staff, and to tho King's German Legion. The Prussian monument stands on rising ground and is an imposing mass of iron and granite, surmounted by a cross. In the churchyard there are numerous monuments to the English slain. The buildings which were so stubbornly defended and Wellington's headquarters are still in existence).
