ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
FALL FROM A HORSE. [Per Press Association.] Invercargill, April 1. An accident happened a short distance from Brown’s, resulting in tin death of Alexander Stuart Patterson, a farm laborer, 28 years of age, who leavps a widow and family. Deceased who was minus his left hand, and was employed on his brother’s farm al Springhills, left homo at 6.30 p.m. for Brown’s, about four miles away, rid ing a horse ho had just purchased, On the return journey he was accompanied by Robert Ross, ahd'on arriving at the latter’s house, deceased rode to the house to obtain matches. Ross remaining at the gate to close it after Patterson left. After waiting for about a quarter of an hour. Robs went inside, and found deceased lying on his hack on the ground unconscious, with the horse a short distance away. He was removed to the house, and Dr. Cow called in, but ho remained unconscious until death. Deceased had had no drink at Brown’s, and Avas perfectly sober when returning home. The cause of death was a fracture of the base of the skull.
