BOY CONDUCTOR AND CZAR
At the Tsarkoe Selo Palace, St. Petersburg, on the afternoon of Sunday, February 11th, the Tsai*; tin Tsarevitch, the Imperial daughters, and other members of the Imperial Family; were present at a command performance given by the Italian child conductor, Willy Fefrero, 7) yearn old, who conducted the Imperial Orchestra of over ,80 musicians. The Tsar chose the following pro gramme: The Overture from “Tailn hauser,” the “Danse oLAnitra” from Greig, and the Farandole of . Bizet. His Majesty subsequently asked to hear the piece whieh Ferrero.had not yet rehearsed with the orchestra, and the Boccherino Minuet was'selected. | After the first few bars the youth ful conductor stopped the orchestra and insisted on greater contrast , between the -forte and; pianissimo passages. , Ho even sang it as he decked it to be played. At the end of the concert the Tsai introduced Ferrero to the Tsarevitch and the two boys shook hands. The Tsar finally asked Ferrero bis opinion of the orchestra, and the boyreplied :. “I think it. is splendid Sire.” His Majesty was greatly amused.
