King George and Queen Mary have gone to Cheshire on a visit to the industries, states the cables.
Captain Francis Inch, the commander of the emigrants snip Volturno, which was burned at sea, has been placed by the Canadian Northern Steamship Company in command of the Principello, which it has just purchased for its service between Rotterdam and New York. > Rev. J. Featherston, Methodist minister at Timaru, was last night presented by his congregation with a purse of sovereigns. His wife was presented with a brooch. The Rev. J. Featherston has been transferred ~ to Inglewood, states the Press Association. Mr and Mrs Noble Wilson, of “Ferndale,” Caloola (N.S.W.), celebrated their golden wedding on Tuesday, March 10. Some of the circumstances ' in connection therewith are exceptional. The marriage took place at Rockley, and the officiating minister (Rev., Richard Caldwell) is still alive, living at Pymble. Since their marriage Mr and Mrs Wilson have resided continuously jat Caloola, and their four children decided to honor their parents hy the reunion of the family, and other branches of Mrs Wilson’s family by a former marriage. The ' luncheon was presided over by the eldest son (Dr. A. Oxley Wilson), and the Rev. M. Maddern, in an interesting address, created much laughter by saying that a golden wedding was another name for looping the loop matrimonially. The happy old couple, who enjoy excellent health, were presented with two family photographs by Dr. Wilson, on behalf of the family, and many telegrams and presents were received. At a recent meeting of the Council of the Ormond Presbyterian College, one of the three residential colleges of Melbourne University, representing respectively Anglican, Presbyterian and Wesleyan denominations, Professor D. K. Picken, M.A., of Victoria College, Wellington, was elected master of the College, tbe eelction being subject to,the approval of the General Assembly in May. Professor Picken graduated as M.A. at Glasgov ,■ until first-class honors, winning the Metcalfe Fellowship. He then proceeded to Cambridge, where he graduated as Sixth Wrangler. In 1902, after acting •as Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Glasgow for five years, he was elected to the position of Professor . of Pure and Applied Mathematics in New Zealand. Picken is author of several mathematical publications. He will take up his new duties at the beginning of 1915, a Press Associaetion message states.
