THE CLYDESDALE SOCIETY OF N.Z.

A meeting of the general purposes committee was held in the registered office of the society, 87 Crawford Street, Dunedin, on Thursday last, when there were present Mr Jas. W. Blair (president, in the chair), and Messrs W. J. J. Charters, A. Johnstone and G. C. Thomson. '

The following were elected members of trio'Society:—Wm. Paterson Reid '(Maheno), Joseph Johnstone (Oamaru)' Enoch Orchard (Seddon), A. McMillah (Waitahuna), H. D. Butterick (Elgin Ashburton, Wm; Nicholls (Belfast, Canterbury), John; McKenzie (Gis borne), Jas. Brunton (Gisborne), J. 11. Murphy (Gisborne), John Forbes (Normanby, Taranaki), Wm. HoK (Paerata, Auckland). An estimate for the making of dies and striking of medals was received from Messrs Edward and Sons, Buchanan Street, Glasgow, and it wa-, decided that Messrs Edward and Sons be given the order.

A letter was. received from the Otago A. and P. Society, stating that Mr Jas Patrick won the WrigStephenson 50 guinea challenge cup at the stallion parade in Septembei last, with Baron Sandy (128); that hi won the gold medal for best mak Clydesdale, offered by the Clydesdale Horse Society of Great Britain, at the same show with Baron Bold (40). and that he won the same Society'.gold medal for the best ciydesdal mare, at the"'summer show in November, with Maggie Young Imp. (25, 260)* (620). There was no affiliation award, the conditions of competition having been omitted from the catalogue by inadvertence. ; The Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, Palmers ton North, wrote stating ilmt the winners of tin gold medals, offered by ~the ClydesdaU Horse Society of Great Britain weft Mr Quentin Donald (Featherstori), with Buchlyvie's Favourite, nip. P.C 1-5-13 (16, 955) (155), and Mr Ernest Short (Parorangi, Feilding), with Silloth Lady Imp. G.Y.L.C. (21, 441.) (695).

Marlborough A. and P. Association, Blenheim, awarded to Mr Donald McCalhim (St Leonards, Blenheim), ; for .Miss Carlton, out of Miss Aggie, PC. 28-1-13. Palmerston and Waihemo A. and P. Association, Palmerston, awarded to Messrs Kenyon Bros. (Merton), for Glenside Rose, foaled 1911, by Abbot sford (95) dam, Lady Bell (432). Tapanui Farmers' Club, Tapanui, awarded to Jas. A. Jenkins (Kelso), for Lady Baron. Tokomairiro Farmers' Club, Milton, awarded to Mr A. Hedley Peattie (Aldersyde, Clarksville), for. Jean of'Aldersyde. Waimate A. and P. Association, awarded to Mr P. W. Borrie (Waihao Downs), for Lady Ronald.

The secretary submitted particulars of a scheme for advertising New Zealand Clydesdale's at the PanamaPacific Exhibition at San Fra'ncisco in 1915. The scheme was heartily approved by members present, and the secretary was empowered to draft a sketch of a, booklet giving details of the work done and contemplated by the Society, and particulars as to where, in New Zealand, representatives of the breed might be purchased; also to canvas among members for advertisements to be printed in the booklet.

The secretary reported_ that the Stud Book was now all' in print and would be issued to members shortly. Accounts amounting to £l7O were passed for payment.
