Wanganui, March IS

A disastrous lire broke out at 3 a.m. at Waverley on the premises of Moore and Fitzsimmons, hairdressers, Main Street. The whole block of buildings known as Dixon’s, comprising Eames (chemist), Merriman (jeweller), and J. B. Dawson (land agent), was totally destroyed. A. J. Cathoie's (stationer) was partially gated. The insurances were: Moore and Fitzsimmons, £450 in the National; Merriman, £6OO in the South British ; Eames £450 in the Atlas; and Dawson £SO in the Royal Exchange. Cathie’s building was owned by Dixon and was insured for £350 in the National and £SO in the Royal Exchange. The above insurances are on the buildings only, the stock and other insurances being unavailable.

The insurances on the buildings amounted to £550 in the Atlas, and £l5O in the Xew Zealand; on the Bank furniture £2OO in the Xew Zealand ; Moore and Fitzsimmons £450 in the Xationjd ; Cathie, £SO in the Royal Exchange and £350 in the Xational ; Dalton, £SO in the Royal Exelmnge; James, £450 in the Atlas; Merriman, £6OO in the South British, and £2O in the Atlas; printing plant, £2OO in tln> Xew Zealand.
