SPORTING.
OPUNAKE RACING CLUB. Certainly the most successful race meeting Opunake has ever hold took place yesterday, and though wet weather in the morning made the outlook not too promising the day was line, and a pleasant time spent. Mr 1. Riley, the Club’s new secretary, was quite successful, and is to be congratulated on his handling of the meeting. Many improvements "eie noticeable to visitors, particularly iu regard to totalisator arrangements, where Mr W. O’Callaghan, of Hawera, and the stall: was kept busy handling the sura of £1.1,867, as compared with £9371 last year. Mr McMahon, Stipendiary Steward, was in attendance, but no enquiries were necessary.
