THE TEST MATCH,

The takings at the cricket match yesterday amounted to £54; £57 was taken on Friday and £247 15s on Saturday, the total for the three days amounting to £358 15s It being a test match, Mr Sims takes 50 per cent, of the gross takings (£179 7s. (id.) In other matches he takes 60 per cent. ; 20 per cent, goes to the lessees of the ground (£7l 15s) and £3O to the New Zealand Cricket Council (£lO7 12s 6d). Out of the Counicl’s quota,
all travelling expenses of New Zealand players, advertising, etc., have to be paid, so it seems highly probable that the Council will sustain a loss over the match.
AUSTRALIANS V. SOUTHLAND.
Invercargill, March 10
The Australians arrived in Invercargill this morning, and commenced their match against Southland in the afternoon on a beautiful wicket, and before an attendance of close on 1000 people. Southland won the toss, and went to the wickets first. Following are the scores

At Newlands, Marylebone hatted first and made 322 (Douglas 93). In their second innings they made 177 for four wickets and declared. Western Province, in their first innings, made 210 (Comaille 52). Hearne took 7 wickets for 76. In their second innings the Province made 178 for nine wickets (Lewis 59).
