Cardinal Gibbons is being greatly criticised for his pronouncement in New Orleans that it is impossible to enforce Prohibition in any Christian country. He added that Prohibition was calculated to make hypocrites, and lead to the manufacture of illicit whisky, replacing good material with bad and simultaneously robbing the Government of legitimate taxation.
