THE COMMITTEE OF PEERS.
IBy Electric Telegraph—Copvaicnn [United Press Association.] (Received 9.10 a.m.)
London, March 8
The appointment of a committee of Peers to inquire into the dealings in Marconi stock is judged to be a bad blow to the prestige of the Government. Liberals were confident a week ago that the committee would not he; formed. Lord Loreburn’s acceptance has roused the fiercest resentment, and he is openly denounced as a traitor. The indignation is shared by Ministers despite the report that lie and Lord Cham wood were only joined on the understanding that the inquiry would be limited to Lord Murray of Elibank’s dealings in the shares. The Daily News says: Doubtless the Liberal Peers accepted with the idea of preventing the committee being made a simple engine of personal or party malice, but they would have been better advised if they had boycotted it altogether.
