THE MOUNTAIN CLUB.

—« TRIP TO LAKE DIVE. Messrs T. P. James,. S. James, O. fames (a lad of 17), H. E. Winder and A. Jones, members of the .Mountain Club, visited Lake Dire yesterday. The trip was made from the Stratford Mountain House, via the Dawson Falls House and track. The party left the Dawson Falls House at 10 a.m., and reached Lake Dive in 3hrs lOmin. The feat is considered by Guide Murphy, of I the Dawson Falls House, as a very 'creditable one, as to his knowledge only two parties out of six who undertook the task were able this season co reach their destination. The track is very rough, especially through the alpine bush and scrub, where in some places it was necessary to crawl on hands and knees. The homeward journey occupied 3krs lomin. The scenery on the route is splendid, and oven though the lake should not be reached the attempt is worth all the trouble. The totara and cedar forests encountered arc quite a feature of the trip. Mr T. P. James was in charge of the party and proved himself a bushman niuoh above the ordinary.
