CORA MINNETT CASE.

In the case in which the Commercial Bank of Australia is suing Com Minnett and Herbert Cowell for £2600 which Robson wrongfully delivered to defendants, Robson gave evidence that he loaned Minnett £2300 for tin-Anglo-Australasian Development Com pany, also £SOO to write a play. Minnett, in her evidence, stated that she was born in Xew South Wales. Her name Mas James, but she went on the stag! as Cora Minuet Vane. She wrote for newspapers and periodicals in that name. She married Braggart, returned to tin State, and toured Australia with her own company, Cowell being the advance agent and secretary. Sin came to London in 1910 and wrot< novels for women as Cora Minnett and for men as Pollen Hawker. Sin endeavoured to form a development company to purchase land in Australia in connection with emigration, and returned to Australia in 1911 tr negotiate for sugar land in Queensland, and oil concessions in the Blue Mountains. The search for oil failed. Minnett, cross-examinsed, denied practising hypnotism, but admitted she advertised herself as a clairvoyant entertainer. Questioned concerning William White, who' lent her £373 she denied commencing her letters t< him "My dearest Willie." Counse produced copies which Minnett re peatedly denied. Finally the origin als were brought in. Minnett sai< she had forgotten the writing. Sh< admitted a foreign countess had sub scribed £SOO and that W. G. Spence an Australian Parliamentarian, an ok" friend of her father's, subscribed £7OO. (Received 11.55 a.m.) London, March 3.

Counsel asked the Judge to sa; that Cora Minnett had no fraudulent or dishonest intent. Mr Shearman on behalf of the Commercial Bank contended that Minnett's career wiv on the borderland of criminal enter prise. Cowell was her dupe.
