AT TRENTHAM.
THE RIFLE MEETING. [Per Press Association.] Trentham, February 27. For the second day’s shooting bright sunshine continued all day. A light left wind broke from the north, but was not troublesome except to those marksmen who shot towards the conclusion of the 300 yards’ range in the opening match of the C series. Aided by good light, some excellent cards were returned, possibles at 300 yards being made by Cameron (Opaki) ana Captain Matheson (Wellington), and at the 500 yards by Barkle (Suburbs), King (Opaki), Head (Akarana), McM array (Te Awamutu), and Hunt (Suburbs). At the GOO yards’ range no possibles were recorded, but Masefield (Sounds) maintained a good average score and won with a total of 101. Henderson, a fellow club mate, was next with 99, and Guy (Kaponga) handed in third card, also 99. Evidently the last range proved a formidable hurdle for some good shots, as none of those who scored a possible at the shorter ranges were included amongst the first nine. In the Auckland match (the first for the belt), there was some fine individual shooting.' F. W. Ching (R.N.Z.A.), late of Lyttelton, wound up the shoot at the first range with 18, ■ while at 500 yards he planted on ten consecutive bulls, hie total being 98, which won him the match. Mclntosh, one of the famous Opaki team, returned a card of 97. White (Christchurch), who made a possible at the longer range, scored 96.
