OIL IN NEW GUINEA.

GERMAN ACTIVITY. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright; [United Press Association.] (Received 8.10 a.m.) Berlin, February 27. The Budget Committee in the Reichstag stated that a Government mining expert had reported the discovery of oil in the northwest of German New Guinea and the committee had voted £2500 to cover preliminary work. The oil is stated to be similar to that found in the Dutch .Indies. The German naval authorities are deeply interested in the discovery. Four largo companies art applying for the right of exploitation, including the monopolisation of land and telegraphs and the exemption of taxes for fifteen years.
