NEW PLYMOUTH SHOW.

A SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION. Yesterday morning broke in New Plymouth with a heavy drizzle, which augured no good for the Taranaki Agricultural Society's annual show, but by ten o'clock a breeze sprang up and dispelled the drizzle, and a :me day was assured. The management was all that could je desired, and the secretary, Mr A. u. Humphries, was indefatigable. In the fat and freezing class there were not many exhibitors, but some line' beasts were penned by Messrs W. Birdling and H. T. Joll. "Taranaki being such a place for 'cattle and dairying," said Mr Parkinson, the Holstein judge, "I expected to see something extra special. But I must say that I have been a little disappointed in many of the classes. With the exception of the aged bulls, aged cows and yearling heifers, and one or two other first ,>rize winners, there was little to about, but I must say that thtchampion bull and the runner-up weiv vary fine animals. So were the age' 1 •ows. They were a very even lot. id fine quality. The yearling heif ai's, as I have said, were good, too." The Jersey classes were well filled but there was a noticeable absence oi ..ome of tne best-known Taranaki ; julls.

Mr H. E. B. Watson, of Tai Tapu, ,vho judged there 3 yeai'm ago, was again the adjudicator, and he said Ik had noticed a distinct improvement in the class of cattle since his pre ious visit, more particularly in th ' >oung stock, an evidence that tin mported bulls had exercised their in iluence on the type of Jersey stocL n the district. The judge express d himself as disappointed with th mils, with the exception oi the year angs and bull calves, which wer •;ood. Some of the females won particularly the champion and reserve champion, which were of gooc! cype. The prize for udder and milk vein development went to Mr R Linn's reserve champion. Mr Washer, judge of the grad. elasses, expressed surprise at tlu small numbers entered, 'and at the fact that there were no grade Shorthorns. There were record entries in thf sheep classes. Pigs were not a numerous class, but the quality was fairly good. The Moa Dairy Co. was placed first in the class for best box of fac:ory butter with 95} points, Omat; being second with 94}, and the Nortl Taranaki Dairy Col third with ,9-1 The challenge trophy for the make >f the best hutter was awarded on K'ie srime''points. .'"Ji'ii >' |'' j [ sfrs G. : Perrbt't; ( Wha'nganiomona • and Mrs J.
