Loan ami Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford brauco, report as follows: On Tuesday, 10th inst., we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when we yarded 214 head m cattle, of which we sold 138 head. Too yarding was small owing to the sheep fair being field on the same day. Store cows, somewhat easier in prcie, especially for low conditioned stuff, realised irorn 50s to (Jos, medium sorts- 75s to JUs, forward cows 97s (3d to l(J7s Gd, fat cows up to 138 s, bulls (small) 72s ,0 80s, heavier beasts up to 1255, 2( year steers 80s to 91s, steers of good quality making from 100 s to 110 s, 20 .uon'tli steers G2s, G3s Gd, G9s, and up .o 71s, cows and!calves "Is up to 85s aid 90s. On Tuesday, 10th inst., we hold our ainual sheep fair, when he had only a nnall yarding, as, owing to the dulncss ,-f prices we recommended several ■bents not to yard. However, 2GOO .hoop were yarded, of which we sold j 836, mostly privately after the sale, ijambs (small) os Gd to 5s 9d, t.m ewes is, 8s Gd, 9s, 10s Gd, and up to 12s Gd for a nice line of f.m. ewes, 4 and Gooth to f.m. ewes (quality not too -ood) from 9s lOd to 10s 4d, cull ewes os Id to Gs sd, and up to 7s 9d, mixed iheep of good quality made up to JGs Gd, 2-tooth wethers 15s 2d, 4 and G;ooth wethers 17s 3d, 2-tooth Romney rams made 21 to Signs. We held our usual monthly sale of wool, sheepskins, hide, tallow, etc , m Tuesday, 10th inst., when we preented a fair catalogue to an average attendance of buyers. Competition was •risk, more especially for lambs’ wool. Most lines) sold at up to and above •resent London values, more especially or coarser, heavy conditioned wools. Pieces made from fl-Jd, 4jjd, d to si'd; bodies and pieces up to sd; rutchings 5d to 5.)d; locks and pipes, lijd; very short and heavy to 4ld md 4fd; dead wool in sacks BpJ to 7d; ieece wool in sacks to 8;ld; Jiorsemir (mixed quality) Is Id per lb; iheepskins, which were in keen demand and firmed somewhat, owing no loubt to recent cable advice from Lonlon, made the following prices:— lamb skins, pelty, 2td to GRI per l lb ; pelts, litle wool, 3kl, 41 d, 51 d to old •er lb; skins will good pelts and fair vool made from 51d) Gf-d, 6ld to 7kl; icavier woolled, good pelts;)7-VcL, 7kb o 71 d; small pelts, litle wool, Is 6d to s 9d each.)
Tallow, in tins, 21s to 24s per cwt. Cowhides, light and fair conditioned, v|d per lb ; dry hides 7|d to 7Jd per lb ; alfs'kTns,' medium quality, up to 9d >er H).
On Wednesday, 11th i 11st. , we held Mir Te Wora sheep fair, when we yardel 3228 sheep, f&lling 'IOO7. The sale vas rather dull, but pribes were up to he average fbr late sales, being as follows :—Woolly lambs (small) 7s 9d ; ■nil ewes, poor quality, -Is 3d 4,s Gd, 5s id to 9s 6d ; 4-tooth ewes (small) 13s id; 2-tooth mixed sheep 13s Gd; 2tooth wethers (small) 13s to 14s Id; t and 6-tooth wethers, fair quality, !7s Id; Romney rams made 2) to 2.) ;ns. We also yarded at To \J r era 95 head T.ttle, of which 52 head wore sold at ‘he hammer and afterwards at the following prices: 2 year old steers, showing colour .04 Gs 6d, 2 year old leers showing quality £4 15s, small due very nice 2 V to 3 year old steers made £7 13s Gd, bulls (yearlings) £2 ss, weaners 19s. During the week we have sold a large quantity of stock privately i\t the following prices Lincoln rams 3.V gns, I and 6 tooth ewes (small) 11s; 2-tooth wethers (small) 15s 3d; 2tooth owes 15s j 4-tooth ewes (good iine) 15s Gd; 20 nionth steers G9s, 71s, 75s and 70s; 2.) year old steers 90s to 100 s; mixed weaners (good colors) small, 20s Gd. 22s to 21s; well grown stuff 25s to 27s Gd. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 11th instant :
Wheat.—Wo have sold an Australian ■'cargo at 115 s9d c.i.f. The market is firm. There is a fair demand, but the market is not likely to improve at present, Matthews, Gamlin’s Report. On the 11th inst. wo held our usual weekly sale in our Inglewood yards, and had a fair yarding of stock. Bidding throughout the sale was dull, and several lines of stock wore passed in. Wo quote:—Store cows £2 16s 6d to £1 10s, springing heifers £-1 IDs to £5 IDs, bulls £-1 to £7, weaners lls to 21s, lambs 12s, call do 3s 3d, f.m. ewes 10s. On the 12th inst. we held our annua! sheep fair in our Tarata yards, and had a good yarding of sheep, every line being disposed of at the hammer, with the exception of one line of f.m. ewes, at very satisfactory prices.
