[Pkb Press Association.] Wellington, February 13. ’At tb» Suprem® Court, Bernac Siumi, alias iiaulsi.cn, pleaded; guilty to indecent assault, a nolle prosequi being entered in another charge of attempted serious offence on the, same child, aged four-and-a-half years. Sentence was deferred. Frank Collins was convicted of theft from the person and remanded for sentence. Charles Vivian Porteous, charged with failing to account for moneys received on account of a third party, was found guilty and remanded for sentence. Thomas Coffev was found guilty ou : charge of ’attempted rape, indecent issault, and attempted carnal knowedge of a girl aged 13 years, who had been brutally assaulted and prevented from crying out by having a sheet stuffed into her mouth. The accused admitted being in the room with the girl, but denied the offence. Sentence was deferred. CHRISTCHURCH SESSIONS. Christchurch, February 13. fn the Supreme Court criminal sessions, Charles Edward Carson, for carnal knowledge, was sentenced to ;ix months’ imprisonment. Herbert Jarvis, for alleged sheep stealing, was before the court, hut the hearing was adjourned. Thomas Geary, for alleged carnal knowledge, was aon.lili, d. The prisoners Owen, Campbell, Me- ! "•>■■ iw»t s. Smith, Francis, Wood, Hill and Leigh, who pleaded earlier in the week to extensive frauds on the Customs Department, will he brought up for sentence on Monday.
