TRA^S-COMTSMENTAL LSNE MILLIONS SQUANDERED. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright [United Press Association.] (Received 8.10 a.m.) Ottawa, February Id. The report of the Commissioners appointed to inquire into the cost of tiie Trans-Continental Railway states that the Commission which had charge of the construction exercised no economy. Eight millions sterling were needlessly squandered, the original estimate being exceeded tive[fold. Many large contracting linns gained huge profits, sub-letting the contracts and doing nothing whatever themselves. Parliamentary action is anticipated as tlu> result of the report.
