General lan Hamilton proceeds to Xew Zealand on April 22nd, states a Mel bourne cablegram.
Mr Thomas Hardy, the English novelist, has married his secretary, Florence Dugdale, says a London Press Association cablegram.
Henry Blackmore, one of Tuapeka’s pioneer gold miners, died last night at Waipori, where he had lived for nearly fifty years (says a Press Assocition telegram from Dunedin). Deceased was for some years manager of the Lammerlaw Flat Hydraulic Gold Mining Company.
The enthronement of the Right Rev. Dr. A. W . Averill as Anglican Bishop of Auckland took place in St. Mary’s J Cathedral last evening (states a Press Association message). Practically all Jthe clergy ot the diocese were present, and the ceremony was performed by j the \ on. Archdeacon Calder, CommisI sary. A very large congregation was | present. The Bishop preached a i powerful sermon, and at the close of • the service a solemn Te Deum was | sung. The Bishop will celebrate Holy Communion in the Cathedral at 9 a.in. to-day, and will be publicly welcomed at the Town Hall on Tlmijfov night.
