HOSPITAL BOARD.
THIS MORNING'S MEETINC. The monthly meeting of the Hospital Board was held this morning. Present: Messrs J. McAllister (chairman), W. Rogers, E. Mine, J. Smith, E. Walter, and C. D. Sole. REPORTS. Dr. Steven (Medical Superintendent) reported: During January seventeen patients were admitted, eleven were discharged, and there were no deaths. Thirteen patients remained at the end of the month. Eight operations were performed under anaesthetics.
The Sanitary Inspector reported: Infectious diseases: No infectious diseases were reported during the month. Stratford Borough: The recommendations in connection with premises occupied by Dong Chong have been given effect to. Five butcher's shops, three fish shops and three fruit shops were inspected. Foul watercourse and defects at boarding house, Douglas, reported on August 20th, 1913: I beg to report that nothing has been done to abate the nuisance, and that another complaint has been made by one of the residents.—Mr Walter asked if the Board could do anything.—The chairman said the County Council was the authority with power to act. A, copy of the report presented to the Board was sent to the County Council.—Mr Walter said he had never seen such a report at a Council meeting. The Gardener reported: There is nothing special to report. The vegetables look very well after the late rain. I am busy now clearing up at the lower part of the garden. I think that in another week or two the extension of the drying green should be attended to. The ground is very unsightly and the isolation ward grounds look very rough and require attention badly.
GENERAL. The tender of Bellringer Bros, was accepted for the painting of the Hospital. . The, probationer, nurses .wrote thanking the Board for' the recent rise in salary. The Matron (Miss O'Brien) wrote under date January 3rd: If convenient I wish to take two weeks of my annual leave this month, Hvhen Dr. Steven returns. —The request was granted. The District Health Officer notified that Inspector Gray had been granted a fortnight's leave of absence as from February 2nd. In his absence urgent matters would be attended to by Inspector Wilson, of Marton.
The Clerk of the Whangnmomona County Council notified that his Council had approved the proposed additions to the Hospital.—Mr Smith reported that the Stratford County Council had approved the plans.—lt was decided that tenders for the work be called forthwith. The District Health Officer wrote that Inspector Gray's bicycle was worn out. Some Boards had recently provided their inspectors with motor cycles to enable them to get about the district expeditiously. He suggested that the Stratford Board should make such provision, and expressed the opinion that money expended in this direction would be well spent.—Mr Sole suggested that the matter should be referred to the Government for favorable consideration—he could not see why the Board should buy bicycles for Government servants.—After a short discussion, it was decided that the letter be received, v.
