A Warning.
THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN.
FULLER RECOGNITION WANTED.
[By Elboteio Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] (Received 9.J0 a.m.) Sydney, 'February 7. The Labour Conference passed a motion by 52 votes to 2C that Mrs Leary bo appointed a deputation to wait on the Government and urge fuller recognition of women's rights.
The debate was exhilarating, and at times exciting, as several male delegates opposed the motion. Their speeches were punctuated with shrill female shouts.
The mover claimed that labor was in power solely on account of the women support. Women were not, he said, in frhe Labor movement for fun, but to improve- their position. There was a movement afoot to send some more members to the Legislative Council, and why not send women? They d.emanded recognition. Tt was an insult and a humiliation to be treated as they were now, and he warned the Conference that if things were not altered there would be a split in Labor ranks as serious as existed in Victoria.
