TRAVELLING ALLOWANCES

MR WILFORD’S PETONE SPEECH.

[Per Press Association.]

In an address to his constituents st week Mr T. M. Wilford stated

that the travelling allowance of the General Manager of Railways was increased, while two shillings a night was taken off boiler-makers.. Replying to'this Mr Berries, Minister for Railways, said that new regulations were Gazetted re travelling allowances, which /applied not only to the General Manager, hut to a large

number of members of the railway service. Ho said that the statement that the pay of boiler-makers was reduced was inaccurate and misleading. Xo reduction had been made.

To this Mr Wilford rejoins that ho id not mention the boiler-makers’ pay ait their relieving allowance, and resserts that by regulations of Decem-

ier 15 last the 6s allowance was cut

down to 4s. Mr Wilford also suggests that since life spoke at Petone instructions have been given to alter the terms of the circular relating to allowances dated January 14th of this year.
