RAINFALL IN JANUARY.
STRATFORD'S GOOD RECORD. In the matter of rainfall during January Stratford holds the good position of the second driest recording station in Taranaki. The total fall in Stratford during January was 2.92 in, which looks like a drought record compared to the 2.38 in. which fell on December 10th. Rain fell on only six days, the only considerable falls heing .9oin on the 22nd and .88in on the 29th. Other falls were: 9th .06in, 14th .2Gi:i, 30th ,3uin, 31st .42in. There were eleven wet days at Inglewood, but on four days the fall was recorded in hundredths of an inch. On the 22nd.2.01in fell, and on the 29th .1.-19iu. The only other falls over half an inch were .78in on the 9th and .84in on the 30th. The other falls were in the vicinity of a quarter of an inch. The total was 6.51. The rainfall in New Plymouth in January was 3.37 in., rain falling on 11 days. In January, 1913, the rai
fall was 6.65 in., there being 15 days on which rain fell. At Ohawe, Hawera, Mr Livingston reports that rain fell on six days in January, a total of 1.85 inches. Last year the month gave 4.-10 inches on einht days. The driest January recorded was in 1908, when .15 inches fell on one day; the wettest in 1899, when 6.36 inches was registered on 16 days.
