THE PANAMA EXHIBITION.
FRANCE TO PARTICIPATE. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright! Times— Sydney Sun Special Cables (Received S.O a.m.) Paris, February 1. The French Ministry is seeking a credit of £70,000 to participate at the Panama Exposition. NEW ZEALAND ARRANGEMENTS. The Secretary of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce (Mr F. S. Pope) lias sent the following circular letter to presidents of chambers o'l commerce, industrial associations, agricultural and pastoral societies, and othter bodies likely to be interested:— "1 have the honor, by direction oi the Prime Minister, to inform yon that the Government proposes to expend a sufficient sum in exhibiting the primary products and nianula. hires of this Dominion at the Panama Exposition, which is to be held in San Francisco next year. The Right Honorable Mr Massey will be very pleased to Lear that producers and manufacturers are willing to assist by arranging for space at the Exposition, or in any other way that may appear desirable. "In order that matters may be advanced as far as possible in America;' Mr E. Clifton, Director of the Fields and Experimental Farms Division of this Department, has been appointed Commissioner for the Exposition, as well as Trade Representative for the Dominion on the West Coast of Canada. Mr Clifton is now on his way. to San Francisco.
"To enable the people of New Zealand to take an interest in the Exposition, which, in view of the recent tariff alterations in America, Mr Hassey regards as of great importance to the Dominion at the present time, he is desirous of seeing a Central Committee for the Exposition set up in Wellington, and Advisory Committees in the other principal cities. Should you have any suggestion to make in this connection, Mr Massey would be glad to hear from yon as early as possible. "As no doubt you are aware, th Exposition opens in February, I9lu. The method of exhibiting ih soittewhat different from former international exhibitions, inasmuch as exhibits from particular countries are • no'! housed in separate courts, but are
exhibited side by side with 'articles of a similar nature from all 'countries. There will, however, 'be .1 New Zealand Executive Building, where samples of the principal products of the .Dominion will he exhibited. The Commissioner at the Exposition will be provided with an ample staff, which will he able to take care of and to explain privaTe exhibits in those cases in which exhibitors do not propose to have their own representatives in attendance."
