The Main Trunk express, leaving at 10 o'clock on Sunday night, was the largest ever despatched, and composed two of the largest locomotives, 15 passenger coaches, and 550 passengers. WOMAN'S DEATH. Auckland, February 2. At the inquest on Mrs Hearn, Dr. Williams gave evidence that death was due to failure of the heart, induced by shock of miscarriage combined with pneumonia. He heard that there had been some threat to take her furniture away. This would have had a disturbing effect on a woman in her condition, but he would not have expect-

RAILWAY STATION BURCLED.

Foxton, February 2

The local railway station was broken into.between 10.30 on Saturday night and 8 on Sunday morning. Entrance was gained by forcing open a window. All the drawers in the office were prized open and about 25s in cash was taken. An attempt was made to blow open the safe with gelatine. but it was unsuccessful, the lock and brass work being damaged. Swags in the parcels office were used to deaden the oxplosion. The police are investigating. SHEEP DOC TRIALS. Auckland, February 2. The sheep dog trials held by the Exhibition Kennel- Club resulted as follows: Smith's (Tikokino), Glen, 1-, P. H. Foeker's (Hawera) Chum, 2; F. H. Jones, (Dannevirke) Moss, 3. The winner's time, 9min 38sec, is remarkably good. A trophy for the best looking dog or hitch competing was won by F. H. Jones' dog, Lord Swat.
