Wellington, January 'J-i. Regarding the proposed New Zealand loan mentioned in a cable message; the Rt. Hun. W. F. ,Massey, in an interview' with an Evening Post representative, said: “Wo have to raise an unusually large sum of money
this year by reason of the fact that so many short-dated debentures fall due between now and December 31.
e have; of course, to raise a certain
noniit of money for public works
utl for the lending departments, and icse facts taken together necossiito onr going on the London market
or a very much larger sum than isual. Onr agents advise that the
credit of the Dominion stands well at present, and in view of that fact, and seeing that there is an appreciable drop in the price of money at it is understood there will bo no difficulty in placing the loan. The great-
er part of the amount raised will he required for ordinary development purposes and for the requirements of the lending department. We shall require another loan before the end of the vear to enable ns to re-
leem a large amount of shortdated lebentures which are falling due. It nay.he added that though the hor•owing seems "very heavy, the not ncrease of indebtedness for the year vill not be above the average.”
